Whale shark found dead

Tuticorin : A whale shark weighing five tonnes was found dead on the seashore at Naripayyur near here on Thursday.

On hearing information from the villagers, a team comprising officials from the Departments of Forest and Animal Husbandry rushed to the spot.

The carcass was found in a decayed state.

Later, autopsy was performed on the site and the whale shark was buried.

V. Naganathan, Eco-Development Officer, Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust, said an investigation had been launched into the incident.
